In order to preserve the peace, protect life and property, prevent crime, detect and assist in the arrest of offenders and promote the enforcement of laws, ordinances, rules and regulations of the Incorporated Village of Great Neck Plaza, the Board of Trustees of the Village of Great Neck Plaza is hereby empowered, by resolution, to establish a civil defense auxiliary police organization either for the individual use of the Village of Great Neck Plaza or in consortium with other villages in the vicinity of Great Neck Plaza for the mutual preservation of the health, safety and welfare of the residents of Great Neck Plaza and of such other villages.
The Board of Trustees of the Village of Great Neck Plaza is hereby empowered to authorize, by resolution, the Mayor of said village to enter into contracts with other villages for such mutual protection of the Village of Great Neck Plaza and of such other villages by a civil defense auxiliary police organization established by each such village in consortium with the Village of Great Neck Plaza, and with a commission which may also be established by mutual resolutions of the Boards of Trustees of such other villages and the Board of Trustees of the Village of Great Neck Plaza.
The Board of Trustees of the Village of Great Neck Plaza is hereby empowered, by resolution, to provide for funding from the general fund of the Village of Great Neck Plaza for the support of the activities of such civil defense auxiliary police organization and to do all other things reasonable and necessary to effect or promote the establishment, organization and operation of such civil defense auxiliary police organization.
This chapter shall take effect immediately as provided in the Municipal Home Rule Law upon being filed in the Office of the Secretary of State, and an additional copy shall be filed with the Department of Audit and Control.
