The purpose of this chapter is to establish the Department of General
Services, the head of which shall be the Commissioner of General Services,
whose job it shall be to coordinate certain village activities with political
subdivisions, public agencies and quasi-public agencies to ensure that services
are rendered by and to the village efficiently and effectively.
A.
Department. There is hereby established the Department
of General Services. The executive head of the Department of General Services
shall be the Commissioner of General Services.
B.
Appointment of Commissioner of General Services. The
Commissioner of General Services shall be appointed annually by the Mayor,
subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees. The person appointed as
Commissioner of General Services may be removed, at will, by the Mayor.
C.
Powers of Department. Subject to the direction of the
Mayor, the Department of Services, through the Commissioner of General Services,
shall have the power:

To supervise and coordinate all village activities with
other political subdivisions, public agencies and quasi-public agencies including,
but not limited to, the incorporated villages on the Great Neck Peninsula,
the County of Nassau, the Town of North Hempstead, the Great Neck School District,
the Manhasset-Lakeville Water District, CLASP, the Visiting Nurses' Association
and the Senior Citizens Center in Great Neck.

To provide liaison and coordinating services and such
other administrative services as shall be determined by the Mayor and/or Board
of Trustees.
D.
Employees. The Mayor, on the recommendation of the Commissioner,
shall appoint such employees as may be necessary to facilitate the operations
of the Department.
E.
Compensation. The compensation of the Commissioner of
General Services and the employees of the Department shall be fixed by resolution
of the Board of Trustees.
This chapter shall take effect immediately as provided in the Municipal
Home Rule Law upon being filed in the Office of the Secretary of State and
an additional copy shall be filed with the Department of Audit and Control.
