A.
The Department of Public Works of the Village of Great
Neck Plaza shall install and maintain the necessary traffic control
devices required to make effective the provisions of this chapter.
B.
The Department of Public Works of the Village of Great
Neck Plaza may install and maintain such additional traffic control
devices as it may deem necessary to regulate, warn or guide traffic
pursuant to the provisions of §§ 1682 and 1684 of the
Vehicle and Traffic Law of the State of New York.
C.
The Superintendent of Public Works of the Village
of Great Neck Plaza is hereby authorized to designate and establish
crosswalks where, in his opinion, they are necessary for pedestrian
safety.
A.
It shall be the duty of the Police Department of the
County of Nassau, State of New York, or of any other police agency
or officer authorized to act within the Village of Great Neck Plaza
to enforce the provisions of this chapter.
B.
Subject to the direction of the Board of Trustees
of the Village of Great Neck Plaza, any police officer or agency is
hereby authorized to make and enforce regulations required to facilitate
special conditions.
C.
It shall be unlawful for any person to refuse or fail
to comply with any lawful order, signal or direction of a police officer.
A.
The provisions of this chapter regulating the operation,
stopping or standing of vehicles shall not apply to any authorized
emergency vehicle while that vehicle is involved in the performance
of emergency duties. This exemption shall not, however, protect the
driver of such emergency vehicle from the consequences of the arbitrary
or careless exercise of this right.
B.
Any provisions of this chapter shall not apply when
otherwise directed or superseded by a police officer during the performance
of his duties.
C.
In the event of fire, accident or any other emergency
situation, officers of the Police or Fire Department or any other
officer duly authorized by the Board of Trustees of the Village of
Great Neck Plaza may take any action they deem necessary to safeguard
the public or to expedite traffic notwithstanding the provisions of
this chapter.
