This chapter is intended to prohibit the sale
of self-service cigarettes and other tobacco products in establishments
open to children under the age of 18. This chapter will require customers
to ask the assistance of a store clerk to obtain possession of tobacco
products, thereby inhibiting theft of the products by minors.
As used in this chapter, the following terms
shall have the meanings indicated:
Any place of business open to the public, including children
17 years of age and younger.
Any product available to or within the reach of customers
of an establishment without the assistance of a store employee.
Any product containing tobacco and shall include, but not
be limited to, cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, tiparillos, and chewing
tobacco.
No Haddam establishment shall offer self-service
tobacco products for consumption by the public after the effective
date of this chapter.
The owner of an establishment which violates
this chapter shall be fined not more than $500.
