[HISTORY: Adopted by the Township Committee of the Township of Hazlet 3-16-1982 by Ord. No. 555-82 as Sec. 6-6 of the 1982 Revised General Ordinances (Ch. 175 of the 1993 Code). Amendments noted where applicable.]
A. 
No person shall fire, set off or discharge within the limits of the Township any gun, pistol, rifle, revolver, shotgun or firearm of any description using cartridges, gun powder or other explosive substances for ammunition, except that target practice shall be permitted at any completely enclosed indoor pistol or rifle range that may be established with the permission of the Township Committee after it has satisfied itself that:
(1) 
The ranges shall be so constructed that no bullet or projectile will carry outside of the confines of the range.
(2) 
The establishment of such range shall not constitute a menace to the safety, health and welfare of the inhabitants of the Township.
B. 
Should any pistol or rifle range become or constitute a menace to the safety, health or welfare of the inhabitants of the Township or others, the Township Committee may revoke such permission and close the range.
The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to the members of any municipal, county or State of New Jersey Police Department or the detectives of the Office of the Prosecutor of Monmouth County or any other person authorized by the statutes of New Jersey to carry firearms, when they are used in the performance of official duties.

For violation of any provision of this chapter, the maximum penalty, upon conviction, shall not exceed the maximum penalties set forth in Chapter 1, General Provisions, Article III. Each and every violation of any provision of this chapter shall be considered a separate violation and shall subject the person so charged to the maximum penalty.
