All plumbing and plumbing work in the City shall comply with the Massachusetts State Plumbing Code, 248 CMR, promulgated by the Board of State Examiners of Plumbing and all amendments thereto.
For purposes of inspection and/or enforcement, the Plumbing Inspector shall use the definitions which appear in the State Plumbing Code. Permits for work shall be required as set forth in said code. Licensing requirements for contractors shall be as set forth in said code or other applicable state regulations.

A. 
Applications for permits are to be filled out completely in ink, print or type information on the right line and sign (no stamp) A copy of the current license must be on file and replaced every two years as renewed.
B. 
Permit must be issued before any work begins or a triple fee will be charged.
C. 
Plumbing/gas inspections must be called for by the plumber/gasfitter or designee using the permit number and address of work site location. The holder of the permit or his designee will be on the job site for each inspection. If the Inspector of Plumbing is requested to make an inspection and, upon arrival at the work site at the designated time, finds that the work is not ready or is unable to be inspected, a reinspection fee of $50 shall be charged for any subsequent inspection of the same work. Said fee shall be paid prior to the reinspection.

All applications for permits for plumbing or gas fitting permits shall be accompanied by a check or money order made payable to the City of Northampton. Water piping is considered a fixture, and a fee is applicable. Fees shall be as set forth in Chapter 174, Fees.

If any work requiring a plumbing or gas permit is commenced before the permit has been issued by the Inspector of Plumbing and Gas, the owner or contractor responsible shall immediately obtain a permit upon being ordered to do so by the Building Commissioner, Inspector of Plumbing and Gas or any other member of the Inspection Department of the City of Northampton. The fee for any permit obtained after the commencement of work shall be triple the fee which would have been charged had the permit been obtained before the commencement of work.
