A pension shall be paid to the widow of any volunteer fireman or first aid or rescue squad worker who has died or shall have died as a result of injuries sustained in the course of performance of duty as a member of the volunteer fire company or first aid or rescue squad.
"First aid or rescue squad" as used in this chapter shall mean any duly incorporated first aid or emergency or volunteer ambulance or rescue squad association providing volunteer public first aid, ambulance or rescue services within the Borough of Kenilworth.
No such pension shall exceed the sum of $5,000 annually. It shall be paid to the widow of such fireman or worker during her widowhood.

If the decedent is not survived by a widow, pensions shall be paid to infant children, during their minority, in equal shares.
