An Economic Development Committee is hereby
created and shall be known as the "Economic Development Committee
of the Township of Montville."

Montville Township's Economic Development Committee
is charged with developing and implementing a strategic business attraction
and retention program for the municipality. Its function is to match
enterprises looking for a new home with a suitable and appropriate
location within Montville's borders. The Economic Development Committee's
mission is to attract strong and diverse corporations which will add
to the Township's already strong and diverse business mix. The primary
focus of the Economic Development Committee is to promote occupancy
of existing vacant commercial sites and to work with revitalizing
currently occupied developed properties to aid in enhancing current
tax rates. The EDC also:
A.
Assists
at the direction of the Township Committee with new applications and/or
inquiries for new commercial developments.
B.
Compiles
and provides timely and useful vacant listings for developments.
C.
Assists,
at the direction of the Township Committee, new applications and/or
inquiries for commercial/industrial developments.
D.
Fosters
a business-friendly environment.
E.
Works to
ensure a balance of interest with the environment and promote an understanding
of economic development and help the community to realize a desired
economic future.
A.
The Committee so created shall consist of seven members,
having powers hereinafter enumerated and two alternate members. One
of the seven members shall be a member of the Board of Directors of
the Chamber of Commerce of the Township of Montville.
B.
The members of the Committee shall be appointed by
the Township Committee. Each member shall be, for at least five years
preceding his appointment, a citizen of the United States. The member
who is also a member of the Chamber of Commerce shall be appointed
for one year, and one additional member shall also be appointed for
one year, two members shall be appointed for two years, two members
shall be appointed for three years, one member shall be appointed
for four years. As to the alternates, one alternate shall be appointed
for two years and one alternate should be appointed for a one-year
term. At the expiration of each of the above terms, the new member
or members shall be appointed for a term of three years. Vacancies
in the membership of the Committee occurring for whatever cause shall
be promptly filled by appointment by the Township Committee for the
unexpired term thereof. Members shall serve for their respective terms
and until their successors are appointed and qualified.
C.
Each member shall be chosen with a special view to
qualifications and fitness for service on the Committee. Each member
shall have had experience in industry, commerce, or finance and shall
be conversant with the needs and facilities of the Township and shall
be of known devotion to public service.
D.
There shall be appointed to said Committee competent
representatives of the business community and citizenry of Montville
Township.
