A.
The
Town Board of the Town of Jerusalem deems it to be in the best interest
of the inhabitants of the Town for the Office of Town Assessor to
be filled by appointment of the Town Board rather than by election.
B.
Recognizing,
however, that there may be opposition in the community to this change,
the Town Board has decided that it may become the subject of a referendum
by the electors of the Town if sufficient persons present their petition
for that purpose as provided by law.[1]

This article is enacted pursuant to the provisions of § 328
of the Real Property Tax Law of the State of New York.
This article shall be subject to a referendum on petition as
provided by § 24 of the Municipal Home Rule Law of the State
of New York.[1]

Provided that it has not been disapproved by the electors at a referendum as provided in § 5-4 herein, this article shall take effect as soon as it is filed by the Secretary of State.[1]
