GENERAL REFERENCES
Fire prevention — See Ch. 87.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the
meanings indicated:
A large discharge pipe with a valve for drawing water from
a water main, to which hoses can be attached for the purpose of fire-fighting
operations.
Any new fire hydrants installed in Westtown Township shall meet
the following minimum requirements as referenced from the National
Fire Protection Association Fire Protection Handbook, most recent
edition:

The size of pipe. As a general rule, pipe less than six inches in
diameter should not be used for fire service. Six-inch pipe shall
only be used when looped in a gridiron where no leg is greater than
600 feet in length. In congested districts, it is recommended that
distributors shall not be less than eight inches in diameter and interconnected
within every 600 feet. On principal streets and for all long lines,
the distributors shall be 12 inches or larger.
B.
Pressure characteristics of systems. Minimum static pressures shall
not fall below 65 psig.
C.
Minimum fire flows.

For areas consisting of groupings of one-family and two-family dwellings,
not more than two stories high, the minimum fire flows shall be provided
as per the following table:

The above required fire flows are the minimum requirements. For other
type occupancies, the Fire Marshal reserves the right to require higher
fire flows or pressures based on the needs of the particular occupancy.
Any person who violates or permits a violation of this chapter
shall, upon conviction in a summary proceeding brought before a District
Justice under the Pennsylvania Rules of Criminal Procedure, be guilty
of a summary offense and shall be punishable by a fine of not more
than $1,000, plus costs of prosecution. In default of payment thereof,
the defendant may be sentenced to imprisonment for a term not exceeding
90 days. Each day or portion thereof that such violation continues
or is permitted to continue shall constitute a separate offense, and
each section of this chapter that is violated shall also constitute
a separate offense.
