The Department of Information Technology shall be responsible for the information technology services necessary to support the Township administration and operations.
The Department of Information Technology shall be headed by a Director, who shall be responsible to the Township Manager and majority of the Board of Commissioners for the performance of the function of the Department. The Director shall manage the operation and maintenance of computing and telecommunication facilities, equipment, and services that meet the needs of Haverford Township for information technology management and control, including supervision of information technology employees; budget preparation and management; recommendations for technical acquisitions; and development of guidelines, standards and procedures. The director is charged with strategic planning, tactical action, and operational decision-making to fulfill the mission of the IT department.
The duties of the Director shall be to:
A. 
Supervise departmental staff, manage and control all aspects of information technology facilities and services.
B. 
Serve as primary contact with vendors in the generation of RFPs, bid documents, agreements, and other major vendor interactions
C. 
Prepare an annual budget request to accommodate planned hardware and software acquisitions for an upcoming year as well as operational costs.
D. 
Identify emerging information technologies and assess new computing technologies and system enhancements needed for the efficient operation of the Township.
E. 
Oversee the development, design, and implementation of new applications and changes to existing computer systems and software packages.
F. 
Supervise the ordering, acquisition, inventorying, and disposition of hardware and software.
G. 
Maintain the integrity and continual operation of the Township network including the inter- and intra-building wiring plant and wireless networks.
H. 
Maintain security and privacy of the information systems, communication lines, and equipment.
I. 
Manage all backup and disaster recovery procedures and plans.
