[Adopted 6-19-1963 by Ord. No. 544]
In order to afford better protection for school children against traffic hazards during the hours they are on their way to and from school, there is hereby created and established a Division of the Police Department of the Borough to be designated as "Street Safety Patrol Division." On occasions it may be necessary to call out female police to assist regular police in searching female prisoners, etc.
The Street Safety Patrol Division shall consist of policewomen, appointed on a part-time basis, to serve as Street Safety Patrol Officers, with Council setting the number from time to time as necessary.
The Civil Service Commission shall receive applications and shall conduct examinations for such part-time police officers and shall certify to the Town Council a list of eligibles.
In certifying a list of those who are eligible for appointment, the Civil Service Commission shall, wherever possible, divide the Borough of Baden into a number of districts equal to the number of schools in the Borough, so that the Town Council may select for appointment persons who are residents of the areas wherein the several schools of said Borough are located.
All such police officers shall be on duty on days when the schools of the Borough are in session, including summer sessions, during which the school children are on their way to and from school. All such appointed officers shall be subject to the same supervision and control of the Mayor as is now provided by law with respect to regular full-time police officers.
The compensation of the members of this Division shall be fixed, from time to time, by resolution of the Town Council.
