[HISTORY: Adopted by the Township Committee of the Township of Blairstown as Sec. 2-1.12 through 2-1.15 (Ord. No. 89) of the 1977 Revised General Ordinances. Amendments noted where applicable.]
There is hereby established the office of Township Clerk. The Township Clerk shall have those duties and responsibilities as prescribed in N.J.S.A. 40:145-4,[1] and such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned to the Township Clerk, from time to time, by the Township Committee.

The Township Clerk shall be appointed by the Township Committee and shall hold office for a period of three years, which term shall commence on the date of appointment in the year in which he/she is appointed.[1] Compensation of the Township Clerk shall be fixed by the Township Committee in the annual Salary Ordinance of the Township of Blairstown.

Editor's Note: N.J.S.A. 40A:9-133 provides, in part, that the term of a municipal clerk shall be deemed to have begun as of the actual date of appointment. Consequently, this section was amended to change "January 1" to "the date of appointment."
The Township Clerk shall comply with and be subject to the provisions of the laws of the State of New Jersey relating to tenure in office, removal from office and certification to meet the requirements of examination and certification in accordance with the provisions of N.J.S.A. 40A:9-133 through 40A:9-134, inclusive. The Township Clerk shall obtain the requisite certificate as prescribed in N.J.S.A. 40A:9-133.3. Commencing January 1, 1990, no person shall be appointed as Township Clerk in the Township of Blairstown unless such person holds a certification of registered municipal clerk, or complies with the provisions relating to examination and certification of municipal clerks in accordance with N.J.S.A. 40A:9-133.2.
In accordance with the provisions of law (N.J.S.A. 40A:9-135), there is hereby created the office of Deputy Township Clerk. The Deputy Township Clerk shall be appointed by a majority of vote of the Township Committee at the annual reorganization meeting of the Township Committee, commencing January 1, 1990. The Deputy Township Clerk shall hold office, during a period of good behavior, for a period of one year, or until a successor has been appointed and has been qualified. The Deputy Township Clerk shall be paid an annual salary fixed from time to time by the Township Committee in its annual Salary Ordinance.
A. 
The Deputy Township Clerk shall perform those functions and duties required of the Township Clerk, in the absence or disability of the Township Clerk and shall have all the powers of the Township Clerk and shall perform such functions and duties of such office in the absence of the Township Clerk.
B. 
The Deputy Township Clerk shall also perform such duties as may be assigned to the Deputy Township Clerk, from time to time, by the Township Committee.
C. 
The Deputy Township Clerk shall attend to his/her office, located in the municipal building, and shall be responsible for those assignments given to the Deputy Township Clerk from the Township Committee.
D. 
The Deputy Township Clerk shall perform his/her functions during periods of times, assigned to the office, from time to time, by the Township Committee, by resolution of the Township Committee, which resolution may include such additional, nonstatutory duties of the Deputy Township Clerk.
