§ 37-1 Establishment.

There is hereby authorized and established a fire department in and for the Township, to be known as the Mansfield Township Fire Department. The Fire Department shall consist of four companies. The companies comprising the Department shall be the Mansfield Township Fire Company, the Tri-County Fire Company No. 1, the Mt. Bethel Fire Company, and the Butler Park Fire Company. Each fire company shall elect its own officers as its bylaws may provide. One of the officers shall be its chief and shall be designated as chief of the fire company.

§ 37-2 Requirements.

No person shall become a member of the Fire Department or any unit thereof unless such person shall:
Be at least 18 years of age and not over 40 years of age.
Be a resident of the Township for a period of at least six months or, if a nonresident, reside within six road miles of its firehouse.
Be a citizen of the United States.
Submit a certificate of physical fitness from a practicing physician, licensed in New Jersey, which certifies that (s)he is fit to perform the duties and responsibilities of a fire fighter.

§ 37-3 Application for membership.

Every candidate for membership in the Township Fire Department shall make written application to the company with which (s)he desires to become affiliated. An affirmative vote of a majority of the members of the company present and voting shall be sufficient to elect such candidate to membership, provided a quorum is present, subject, however, to approval of his/her membership by the chief of the fire company in which membership is sought and his/her further confirmation by the Township Committee.

§ 37-4 Official roll.

The names of all members of the Township Fire Department shall be entered on a roll of fire fighters to be maintained by the Township Clerk.

§ 37-5 Chief of Department.

The Township Committee shall appoint one of the chiefs of the respective fire companies annually who shall be designated chief of the Fire Department. Whenever this term is used in this section, it shall be deemed to mean the chief for Firemen's Relief Association purpose only.

§ 37-6 Chief of the fire company.

Whenever this term is used in this section, it shall be deemed to mean the chief of the respective fire company.

§ 37-7 Record of attendance.

Every member of the Township Fire Department shall, in each and every year, perform at least 60% of duty. Such duty shall include actual attendance and duty at fires and drills. A record shall be maintained of each member's duty and attendance by the Chief of the Fire Department or an officer delegated by him/her for such purpose, and a report thereof made annually to the Township Committee.

§ 37-8 Exemption certificates.

Exemption certificates may be issued to members of the Township Fire Department who shall have served on active duty for seven years under Township control, pursuant to the provisions of the laws of New Jersey.

§ 37-9 Creation; statutory authority.

A junior firefighter's auxiliary is created within the Township of Mansfield, Warren County, New Jersey, pursuant to authorizations set forth in N.J.S.A. 40A:15-95 et seq.

§ 37-10 Age restrictions.

No person shall be eligible for membership in the Junior Firemen's Auxiliary of the Township of Mansfield who is less than 16 or more than 21 years of age. Any person between the ages of 16 and 21 shall be required to obtain permission to join the auxiliary from their parent or guardian in writing. Such permission shall be acknowledged or proved in the manner required by law for deeds to real estate to be recorded to be accepted by the Township of Mansfield.

§ 37-11 Training rules required to be adopted.

Any fire company of the Township of Mansfield's Fire Department shall be authorized to create a separate Junior Firemen's Auxiliary for each company; provided, however, prior to establishment of the same, rules and regulations setting forth the training of the auxiliary for eventual membership in the Volunteer Fire Department of the Township of Mansfield shall be adopted by said company and the Township Committee of the Township of Mansfield.

§ 37-12 Restrictions on duties.

No Junior Fireman or member of a Junior Firemen's Auxiliary shall be required to perform duties which would expose him or her to the same degree of hazard as a regular member of the Volunteer Fire Company of which the organization is an auxiliary.

§ 37-13 Incorporation of rules.

All rules and regulations established by any volunteer fire company which is a Mansfield Township Fire Department for the purposes of operation of a Junior Firemen's Auxiliary upon approval by the Township Committee shall be incorporated herein by reference. A copy of the same shall be on file with the Township Clerk at all times together with a copy of the same being available to the parent or guardian of any minor member of a Junior Firemen's Auxiliary through the Fire Chief of the individual fire company.
