For the purpose of nominating and electing the elective officers of the town and public schools and for putting into effect article VIII, section 8-1, fiscal year, this Charter shall be in effect from and after its approval by the electors and validation by the general assembly of such provisions herein mentioned as may be inconsistent with state law. For all other purposes except as otherwise specified, this Charter shall be in effect, from and after the first Monday following the certification by the board of canvassers of the first officers elected under this Charter in November, 1964.
The town council shall have authority to make any changes or transfers in appropriations existing when this Charter takes effect which may be required for the operation of the town government under the provisions of this Charter.
The town council shall proceed to enact or adopt as promptly as possible all ordinances, resolutions, rules and regulations which may be necessary to implement the provisions of this Charter.
The preceding Charter amendments shall take effect immediately upon passage and all sections of the Charter inconsistent are herewith repealed. (Res. #72, 9-13-1982; G.E. 11-2-1982)

DISTRICT BOUNDARIES
The following shall be the new district lines of the Town of Johnston in accordance with the redistricting plan submitted and approved by the Town of Johnston Board of Canvassers on February 18, 1992, and Town Council on March 9, 1992.
DISTRICT 1 BOUNDARY
Northward Boundary. A line which shall commence at center of Central Pike at the point at the Johnston Scituate border, thence continue east along center of Central Pike, to the point of junction at Central Pike and Scituate Avenue, thence continue south southeasterly along center of Scituate Avenue, to the point of junction at Simmonsville Avenue and Scituate Avenue, thence continue east along center of Scituate Avenue, to the point of junction at Scituate Avenue and Atwood Avenue, thence continue south along the center of Atwood Avenue, to the point of junction at Atwood Avenue and Morgan Avenue, thence continue east along center of Morgan Avenue to the point of junction at Morgan Avenue and Monson Street, thence continue east along a parallel line approximately one hundred feet south of Ipswich Street to the Johnston Providence border.
Eastward Boundary. A long along the Johnston-Providence border and continuing along the Johnston-Cranston border.
Southward Boundary. A line along the Johnston-Cranston border.
Westward Boundary. A line which shall commence at the point of junction at the Cranston-Scituate-Johnston border and continue north along the Johnston-Scituate border to the point of junction at the center of Central Pike and the Scituate-Johnston border.
DISTRICT 2 BOUNDARY
Northward Boundary. A line which shall commence at the point of junction of Reservoir Avenue and Hanford Avenue and continue east on Hartford Avenue to Atwood Avenue, then north on Atwood Avenue to Cherry Hill Road, then east on Cherry Hill Road to Cavalcade Boulevard and Tara Street to Hartford Avenue, then east on Hartford Avenue to Borden Avenue, then east on Borden Avenue to Flanders Street, then southeast to Burnett, then east to Craigie Avenue, then northeast to Zoar Avenue, then south on Zoar Avenue to Merline Avenue, then east on Merline Avenue to Killingly Street, then south on Killingly Street to Oakdale Avenue, then west on Oakdale Avenue to Maribeth Drive, then south on Maribeth Drive to Angela, then east on Angela one block, then south one block, then east one block to the Johnston-Providence border.
Eastward Boundary. A line which shall commence at the point of junction at Killingly Street at Borden Avenue and continue south along the center of Killingly Street to the point of junction of Killingly Street and the Johnston-Providence border, thence continuing south along the Johnston-Providence border to the point of junction at the northern boundary line of District 1 at the Johnston-Providence border.
Southward Boundary. A line which shall commence at the point of junction at Reservoir Avenue and Scituate Avenue and continue east on Scituate Avenue to Atwood Avenue then south on Atwood Avenue to Morgan Avenue then east on Morgan Avenue to Monson Street then continue east along a parallel line approximately one hundred feet south of Ipswich Street to the Johnston-Providence border.
Westward Boundary. A line which shall commence at the point of junction at Hartford Avenue and Reservoir Avenue and continue south along Reservoir Avenue to Scituate Avenue.
DISTRICT 3 BOUNDARY
Northward Boundary. A line which shall commence at the point of junction at Cherry Hill Road and Cavalcade Boulevard and continue east along Cherry Hill Road to Greenville Avenue, then east along Greenville Avenue to Traver Avenue and then northeast along Traver Avenue extended to the Johnston-Providence border.
Eastward Boundary. A line which shall commence at the point of junction of Traver Avenue extended and the Johnston-Providence border, south and then west on the Johnston-Providence border to Killingly Street.
Southward Boundary. A line which shall commence at the point of junction of Tara Street and Hartford Avenue, then southeast along Hartord Avenue and Atwood Avenue then north on Atwood Avenue to Cherry Hill Road, then east on Cherry Hill Road to Cavalcade Boulevard and Tara Street to Hartford Avenue, then east on Hartford Avenue to Borden Avenue, then east on Borden Avenue to Flanders Street, then southeast to Burnett, then east to Craigie Avenue, then northeast to Zoar Avenue, then south on Zoar Avenue to Merline Avenue, then east on Merline Avenue to Killingly Street, then south on Killingly Street to Oakdale Avenue, then west on Oakdale Avenue to Maribeth Drive, then south on Maribeth Drive to Angela, then east to Angela one block, then south one block, then east one block to the Johnston-Providence border.
Westbound Boundary. A line which shall commence at the point of junction at Hartford Avenue and Tara Street, then north on Tara Street to Cavalcade Street to Cherry Hill Road.
DISTRICT 4 BOUNDARY
Northward Boundary. A line which shall commence at the intersection of Spragueville Road and the Johnston-Smithfield border, then east along the Johnston-Smithfield border to the point of junction at the Johnston-Smithfield, North Providence border.
Eastward Boundary. A line which shall commence at the point of junction of the Smithfield-North Providence border and continue south on the Johnston-North Providence border and south on the Johnston-Providence border to Traver Avenue extended.
Southward Boundary. A line which shall commence at the point of junction of Barnes Street and Cherry Hill Road, then east along Cherry Hill Road to Greenville Avenue, then east along Greenville Avenue to Traver Avenue extended to the Johnston-Providence border.
Westward Boundary. A line which shall commence at the intersection of Spragueville Road and the Johnston-Smithfield border, south on Spragueville Road to Greenville Avenue, south on Greenville Avenue to Blackberry Hill Way, west on Blackberry Hill Way one block, south at that intersection to Truman Street, east on Truman Street to Toledo Avenue, south along Toledo Avenue to Progress Avenue, east on Progress Avenue to Greenville Avenue, then south on Greenville Avenue and south on Barnes Street to Cherry Hill Road.
DISTRICT 5 BOUNDARY
Northward Boundary. A line which shall commence at the point of junction of Spragueville Road and the Johnston-Smithfield border, then west along the Johnston-Smithfield border to the point of junction at the Scituate-Johnston-Smithfield border.
Eastward Boundary. A line which shall commence at the point of junction of Spragueville Road and the Johnston-Smithfield border, then south on Spragueville Road to Greenville Avenue, then south on Greenville Avenue to Blackberry Hill Way, west on Blackberry Hill Way one block, south at that intersection to Truman Street, east on Truman Street to Toledo Avenue, south along Toledo Avenue to Progress Avenue, then east along Progress Avenue to Greenville Avenue, then south on Greenville Avenue and south on Barnes Avenue to Cherry Hill Road.
Southward Boundary. A line which shall commence at the point of junction of Barnes Avenue and Cherry Hill Road, then west on Cherry Hill Road to Atwood Avenue, then south on Atwood Avenue to Hartford Avenue, then west on Hartford Avenue to Reservoir Avenue, then south on Reservoir Avenue to Central Avenue, then west on Central Avenue to the Johnston-Scituate border.
