When any vehicle is parked in violation of a traffic law, ordinance, rule or regulation or abandoned on any public highway within the Town of Amherst, said vehicle may be removed by the Police Department of the Town of Amherst.
[Amended 3-15-1971, effective 3-27-1971]
After such removal the Police Department may store such vehicle in a suitable place at the expense of the owner. Such owner or person in charge of the vehicle may redeem same upon payment to the Police Department of the Town of Amherst of the amount of all expenses actually and necessarily incurred in effecting such removal, such charges not to exceed $25 per day, or fraction thereof.
The Police Department shall, without delay, attempt to ascertain the owner of such vehicle or person having same in charge and notify him of the removal and disposition of such vehicle and the amount that will be required to redeem same.
This chapter shall become effective 10 days after publication and posting as required by law.
