A. 
There is hereby created a Department of Health in and for the Township of East Hanover, the Director of which Department shall be the duly appointed Health Officer of the Township.
B. 
Chapters 173 through 213, inclusive, of the Code of the Township of East Hanover, as heretofore adopted by the Board of Health, are hereby readopted for a period not to exceed 120 days to allow the same to be amended, revised and supplemented to reflect the change in status of the public health agency.
(1) 
During the one-hundred-twenty-day period set forth above, the chapters designated shall remain in full force and effect; provided, however, that where the phrase "Board of Health" appears in the text, it shall be read to mean the "Health Officer" or "the Township" as appropriate to the context.
A. 
The Health Officer shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council.
B. 
No person shall be appointed as Health Officer unless he/she shall, at the time of appointment, be licensed as a health officer and qualified by licensure, training and experience to perform the duties of the office.
C. 
The Health Officer shall be responsible for the enforcement of ordinances, rules and regulations affecting health and of the public health laws and Sanitary Code of the State of New Jersey within the Township of East Hanover, and shall perform such other duties relating to public health matters as may, from time to time, be assigned or delegated by the Mayor or the Township Administrator.
D. 
The Health Officer shall be deemed to be a full-time employee of the Township and shall devote as much time as may be required to adequately and properly administer the public health functions and programs of the Township of East Hanover.
A. 
There is hereby created the position of Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) for the Township of East Hanover.
B. 
No person shall be employed as an REHS unless he/she shall, at the time of appointment, have been qualified by licensure, training and experience to perform the duties of the position.
C. 
The REHS shall assist the Health Officer in the enforcement of ordinances, rules and regulations affecting health and of the public health laws and Sanitary Code of the State of New Jersey within the Township of East Hanover, and shall perform such other duties relating to public health matters as may, from time to time, be assigned or delegated by the Health Officer.
