A Police Department is hereby established in and for the Borough of Ligonier.
The Chief of Police shall be the chief executive of the Police Department. Under the direction of the Mayor, the Chief of Police shall be in charge of the police force and shall have supervision over its members in the exercise of their powers, duties and authority.
The position of Sergeant is hereby established for the Police Department of the Borough of Ligonier, who shall be second in command to the Chief of Police as well as perform such other duties as directed by the Mayor and Chief of Police.

Editor's Note: This ordinance also changed the title of this section from "Establishment; Chief; Corporal" to "Establishment; Chief; Sergeant."
Subordinate to the Chief of Police, the classification of patrolman is hereby established. The number of persons to serve as patrolman, on a full-time or part-time basis, and the compensation of the Chief of Police and each of the patrolmen shall be determined by the Borough Council from time to time.
Nothing herein contained shall affect the authority of the Mayor to appoint special policemen during emergencies, nor shall any rights and/or privileges now enjoyed by the present members of the Police Department of the Borough be affected in any manner by the provisions herein contained.
