The Town of Amenia has determined the necessity to elect a single Assessor pursuant to Real Property Tax Law § 329 to attract qualified candidates and promote stability and consistency in the office.
The Town Board of the Town of Amenia hereby enacts, pursuant to Real Property Tax Law § 329, that: The elective office of sole Assessor shall be determined in the general election, and the elective office of sole Assessor shall be placed on the ballot for the general election to be held on November 4, 1997.
From and after January 1, 1998, there shall be one Assessor elected at the general election to be held on November 4, 1997, and thereafter as provided by law.
This chapter shall be subject to mandatory referendum in the manner prescribed in § 23 of the Municipal Home Rule Law.
This chapter shall only become effective if approved by a majority vote of the qualified voters of the Town of Amenia voting at the general election to be held on November 4, 1997.
