[HISTORY: Adopted by the Special Town Meeting of the Town of Bethany 12-18-2003. Amendments noted where applicable.]
A. 
The Town Attorney shall be appointed by the First Selectmen with the consent of the Board of Selectmen;
B. 
Said consent will not be withheld, provided the appointee meets the following minimum standards:
(1) 
Appointee shall be admitted to the Connecticut Bar.
(2) 
Appointee shall have a minimum of two years' experience representing municipalities.
(3) 
Any other standards as deemed necessary from time to time by unanimous vote of the Board of Selectmen.
C. 
Said appointment shall be no later than the second regularly scheduled Board of Selectmen meeting after the commencement of the term of the Board of Selectmen;
D. 
If the appointee of the First Selectmen does not meet the minimum standards as set forth in § 9-1B, the First Selectman shall name a different appointee each month thereafter until the minimum standards are met.
The term of the appointee for Town Attorney shall begin on the date of consent by the Board of Selectmen and run concurrent with the term of the Board of Selectmen or until the Town Attorney's successor has been appointed.
