A Police Council is hereby created as an advisory board.

The Council shall be composed of seven persons, all of whom shall be residents of the Township of Cranberry. The Board of Supervisors shall by majority vote appoint the seven members of the Police Council who shall serve for three years, which may be staggered terms. Appointment to fill vacancies shall be made by the Board of Supervisors for the remainder of the vacant position's unexpired term. Members may be reappointed by the Board of Supervisors and serve more than one consecutive term.

A president, vice president, and secretary shall be selected by majority vote of the membership.

Meetings will be held at the call of the Director of Public Safety. During the first meeting of the year an election will be held and the Director of Public Safety will report on the activities of the Police Department.

The Police Council's primary function is to assist in interviewing those who have applied for employment as Township police officers and to provide advice to the Director of Public Safety as to those candidates who should continue to be considered as set out in the Police Hiring Manual. At the request of the Board of Supervisors, the Police Council may be asked to provide assistance in advising the Director of Public Safety on other police-related issues.
