The purpose of this chapter is to adopt an agreement creating
a Joint Recreation Commission ("Commission") between the Town of Amenia,
the Town of North East, and the Village of Millerton (collectively,
the "municipalities"), pursuant to the provisions of Article 13 of
the General Municipal Law. The intent and purpose of the Commission
is to provide the residents of the municipalities with a broad spectrum
of recreational and avocational opportunities and experiences at low
cost. The Commission will serve to increase the well-being of the
residents of Amenia, will increase community interaction, and will
provide residents with a significant new resource for recreational
opportunities. Accordingly, the Town Board concludes that the creation
of the Commission will serve a proper public purpose and will provide
a direct benefit to the citizens of the Town of Amenia.
The Town Board of the Town of Amenia, having determined that
it would be in the best interests of Town residents to establish a
Joint Recreation Commission with the Town of Amenia, the Town of North
East, and the Village of Millterton hereby adopts and incorporates
the attached intermunicipal agreement[1] to create a Joint Recreation Commission pursuant to General
Municipal Law § 244-d.
