Town of Kendall, NY Chapter 229 Terms of Office

§ 229-1 Statutory authority.

This article is adopted pursuant to the provisions of the Municipal Home Rule Law of the State of New York.

§ 229-2 Increase in term of office.

The term of office of the elected Town Clerk shall be four years. Such four-year term shall commence as of the first day of January 2002, and shall apply to the person elected to such office at the general election to be held on November 7, 2000 and to those elected thereafter, provided a proposition submitted pursuant to § 229-3 below is approved.

§ 229-3 Mandatory referendum.

This article is adopted subject to a mandatory referendum and shall be submitted for approval of the qualified voters of the Town of Kendall at the general election to be held on November 7, 2000. A proposition in the following shall be included on the ballot at such election, and the increased term of office shall not take effect unless such proposition is approved by a majority vote of the qualified voters voting thereon:

"Shall Local Law No. 1 of the year 2000, entitled 'A Local Law Increasing the Term of Office of the Town Clerk from Two to Four Years,' be approved?"

§ 229-4 Supersession.

This article shall supersede Town Law § 24 relating to the term of office for the Town Clerk of the Town of Kendall, Orleans County, New York.
