A. 
The purpose of this section is to permit the Town's Police Department to take title to and to utilize for its law enforcement purposes those vehicles abandoned within the meaning of Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1224.
B. 
Procedure:
(1) 
The Chief of Police or his designee shall insure that prior to taking title to any such (abandoned) vehicle that the vehicle is actually abandoned within the meaning of Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1224.
(2) 
The procedures prescribed in Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1224 shall be complied with, including compliance with any regulations emanating from the Commissioner of the (State) Department of Motor Vehicles (see Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1224 (10).
C. 
This remedy set forth in § 206-57 is not exclusive of any other remedy available under applicable federal, state or local law for the disposition of abandoned vehicles.
