Editor's Note: This ordinance superseded former Ch. 133, Town Clerk, which consisted of Art. I, Salary, adopted 5-21-1986.
Under the provision of § 7-34b of the Connecticut General Statute, the Town of East Haddam hereby provides that the compensation of the Town Clerk shall be by the salary established and fixed by the Town Meeting of East Haddam, which salary shall be in lieu of all fees and other compensation provided for in the General Statute.
A. 
There shall be the office of the Town Clerk. Except as otherwise specifically provided by this chapter, the Town Clerk shall have the powers, duties and responsibilities and shall be subject to the restrictions and limitations set forth in the General Statutes with respect to Town Clerks as the same may, from time to time, be amended.
B. 
The person holding the office of Town Clerk on the day following the date of adoption of this chapter shall continue to hold the office of Town Clerk for the respective term of office for which he/she was elected and until his/her successor is elected and has qualified. There shall be a Town Clerk elected at the next succeeding municipal election for a term of four years. Thereafter, at each quadrennial election there shall be elected a Town Clerk who shall hold office for a term of four years to succeed his/her who terms expire.
C. 
The Town Clerk so elected shall hold his/her office for a term of four years from the first Monday of January next succeeding his/her election and until his/her successor is elected and has qualified.
