[Adopted 3-11-1980 by L.L. No. 8-1980 (Ch. 313, Art. I, of the 1985 Code)]
At present, the price of gasoline is rising steadily in Suffolk County. With the price quickly approaching $1.50 per gallon, gasoline stations will have the choice of converting their pumps from two-digit to three-digit prices or selling the gasoline in another measure. It is conceivable that numerous gasoline stations will convert their pumps to the metric system, selling gasoline by the liter rather than by the gallon. Such a conversion would cause more confusion at the gasoline pumps and be unfair to the consumers of Suffolk County.
No entity in Suffolk County, including gasoline service stations, may charge customers for gasoline using the metric system.
The provisions of this article shall apply to all premises which sell gasoline, including but not limited to gasoline stations, car washes, car-care centers, auto repair stations and the like.
All provisions of this article shall be enforced by the Suffolk County Office of Consumer Affairs.
Any station, store or center which violates this article shall be subject to a fine not exceeding $250 for the first offense and $1,000 for the second and subsequent offenses.
