The Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Services, the Suffolk County Commissioner of Police, and the Suffolk County Commissioner of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services are hereby authorized, empowered, and directed to form a committee for the sole purpose of advising the County Executive, in the event of a domestic disaster, as to the need for emergency relief services and whether certain County employees who have volunteered can provide those needed services. The County Executive may, in his discretion, extend the financial support provided under this article to those volunteer County employees who provide disaster relief.
The County Executive is hereby authorized and empowered to renegotiate, where necessary, existing collective bargaining agreements between the County of Suffolk and any recognized or certified County employee organization for the purpose of providing to any County employee who volunteers for disaster relief efforts in accordance with § 935-43 of this article payment of the difference between any salary or compensation such individual receives from any governmental organization or from any disaster relief organization for such volunteer service during the period of such service and the salary or compensation such individual would have received if he or she had continued to be compensated by the County of Suffolk during such period of service; except, however, said payments shall not continue for more than 30 days of consecutive service, anything in any pertinent collective bargaining agreement or other resolution to the contrary notwithstanding.
Any exempt County employee who volunteered for disaster relief efforts in accordance with § 935-43 of this article shall be entitled to receive the same compensation and job security benefits as set forth in § 935-44, anything in Chapter 935 of the Suffolk County Code to the contrary notwithstanding.
A. 
All other fringe benefits extending to any such employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement with a pertinent recognized or certified County employee organization shall remain applicable and in full force and effect.
B. 
Fringe benefits extending to any exempt employees under Chapter 935 of the Suffolk County Code shall remain applicable and in full force.
The Suffolk County Executive and the Suffolk County Personnel Officer are hereby authorized and directed to implement a policy of continuation of health insurance coverage at County expense for County employees who have volunteered for disaster relief efforts in accordance with § 935-43 of this article.
The benefits granted by this article shall be applicable to anyone who volunteers for disaster relief in accordance with § 935-43 of this article as of the effective date of this article.
