GENERAL REFERENCES
Sewers — See Ch. 740.
Pursuant to the provisions of Article 5-A of the County Law of the State of New York, there is hereby created the Suffolk County Sewer Agency.
Such Agency shall have the following powers and duties:
A. 
To assemble data relating to the sewage collection, conveyance, treatment and disposal problems of the County of Suffolk.
B. 
To assemble data relating to the water resources available to the County both within and without, as the same may bear upon sewage disposal.
C. 
To cause maps and plans to be prepared for the establishment of certain areas of the County, particularly in the western five towns of the County, as County Sewer Districts.
D. 
To report its findings on a quarterly basis to the Suffolk County Legislature by filing a copy of said report with each member of the County Legislature at said time.

E. 
To carry out such other functions, powers and duties as the Suffolk County Legislature and the laws of the State of New York may from time to time delegate to it.

The Agency shall consist of seven members, who shall at all times be the County Executive, the Presiding Officer of the County Legislature, the Chairman of the Public Works Committee of the Suffolk County Legislature, one Legislator appointed by the Presiding Officer of the County Legislature, the County Commissioner of the Department of Public Works, the County Commissioner of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services and the Director of the Suffolk County Planning Department, or a representative appointed by each of them respectively. The aforesaid Commissioner of the Department of Public Works or his appointed representative shall serve as Chairman of the Agency.

The Agency may adopt and from time to time amend its own rules and regulations of its procedure as it may deem necessary and appropriate.

A. 
The Suffolk County Sewer Agency is hereby empowered to appoint:
(1) 
[1]An engineer or firm of engineers, as general consulting engineers to the Agency on a consulting-fee basis.

Editor's Note: Former Subsection A(1), regarding the appointment of engineers for the first stage of Sewage Disposal District No. 1, was deleted at time of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1, General Provisions, Art. IV).
(2) 
A general counsel to the Agency, at the annual fee to be approved by the Suffolk County Legislature, plus disbursements until the district is established, and said fee shall be exclusive of fees for litigation, if any.
(3) 
A bond counsel to the Agency on a consulting-fee basis.
(4) 
A public information advisor on a consulting-fee basis.
(5) 
Such staff as may from time to time be needed and incur such other expenses as may be necessary.
B. 
All of the foregoing appointments shall be within the amount made available therefor by budget appropriations.
