The Town of Canton hereby establishes a Juvenile Review Board in accordance with § 10.02A of the Town Charter.
The purpose of the Juvenile Review Board is to provide community-based diversionary programs for juveniles which preserve the element of accountability while creating an atmosphere for positive youth development. The Juvenile Review Board acts as an alternative to the Juvenile Court System by working closely with police and school officials to identify appropriate juvenile candidates for the program.
The Juvenile Review Board shall consist of five regular members and two alternate who shall be appointed by the Board of Selectmen pursuant to § 10.02 of the Town Charter. The Juvenile Review Board shall include members who have experience and skill in working with children at risk, including but not limited to psychologists, social workers, clergy, court personnel, school officials and parents.
The Juvenile Review Board shall have authority to adopt such procedures as reasonably necessary to meet its stated function.
