A.
Signs must be constructed of durable material and maintained in good
condition.
B.
Advertising painted upon or displayed upon a barn or other building
or structure shall be regarded as an advertising sign board, and the
regulations pertaining thereto shall apply.
C.
Each sign shall be removed when the circumstances leading to its
erection no longer apply.
D.
Signs may be interior lighted with nonglaring lights or may be illuminated
by floodlights or spotlights shielded so there is no direct light
transmitted to other properties or public rights-of-way.
E.
Signs must be located so that they do not interfere with any clear
sight triangle as defined by this chapter.
F.
Determination of size. The "size" of the sign shall refer to the
area of the sign facing, including any border framing or decorative
attachments. In the case of open signs made up of letters, figures
and designs, the space between such letters, figures and designs shall
be included. Where a sign has two or more faces, the area of all faces
shall be included in determining the area of the sign, except that
where two such faces are placed back to back and at no point more
than three feet from one another, the area of the sign shall be taken
as the area of one face, if the two faces are of equal area, or as
the area of the larger face, if the two faces are of unequal size.
A wall that is offset or staggered less than 10 feet may be used to
compute the total size permitted for attached signs.
G.
In the event that a symbol, trademark or other such figure is used
as a signpost or sign standard which could be construed to indicate
or identify a particular use or business, that symbol, trademark or
figure is to be computed as part of the total allowable sign area.
Subject to the other provisions of this article, only the following
types of permanent signs are permitted throughout the Township:
A.
Permits required. Building permits shall be required for all permanent
signs.
B.

Subject to the other provisions of this article, only the following
types of temporary signs will be permitted throughout the Township.
A.
Permits required. Building permits shall be required for the erection
of the following types of temporary signs as referenced in the following
chart: T-1, T-3, T-4, T-5, T-8, T-9 and T-10.

Signs advertising on-site special events shall be subject to
the chart[1] and the following:
A.
No sign shall be used for more than 60 consecutive days in any twelve-consecutive-month
period.
B.
No sign shall be used on any one lot for more than 120 days during
any twelve-consecutive-month period.
C.
No lot shall have a sign more than four separate times during any
twelve-consecutive-month period.
D.
No temporary sign may be located within a clear sight triangle.
E.
Permits shall be required for each time such sign is to be used.
The application shall state date of placement and period of placement.
A location map showing relationship of the sign to roads and driveways
shall be attached.

The following types of signs shall not be permitted in the Township:
A.
Signs of such a design and location that they interfere with, compete
for attention with or may be mistaken for a traffic signal. This shall
include any sign visible from the public right-of-way which uses an
arrow device or the word "stop." It shall also include signs in which
the colors red, green or amber are used either in direct illumination
or in high reflection by the use of special preparation, such as fluorescent
paint or glass.
B.
Any sign located in or extending into a public right-of-way, except
those owned or operated by a duly constituted government.
C.
Any freestanding sign within the clear sight triangle, except directional
signs less than three feet in height, and any other sign which interferes
with the safe movement of traffic.
D.
Freestanding signs on or over a public sidewalk area.
E.
Signs attached perpendicular to any building and projecting over
the public sidewalk area.
F.
Signs erected upon or attached to the roof of any building.
G.
Freestanding signs for individual uses within an approved shopping
center complex.
