Service lines from the Y-branch or new tap of the sewer main to the property line shall be constructed or installed by the property owner and maintained by said property owner at his expense.
A.
The house trench shall be dug so as to meet the public sewer at the position of the Y-branch or Y-branch extension as located by the Superintendent of Public Works.
B.
All materials from the trench excavation shall be loaded and removed from the site, and run-of-bank material, free from stone 1/2 cubic foot in size, shall be used for backfill or the excavation. The material shall be placed manually to one foot above the pipes, and the trench shall be manually tamped in two-foot layers.
[Amended 4-15-1974]
C.
Whenever the sides of the trench will not stand vertical, sheeting and braces shall be used to prevent unnecessary caving.
D.
Proper barriers and lights must be maintained on the banks of the trench to guard the public against accidents during the progress of the work.
E.
Before backfilling, notice must be given to the Superintendent of Public Works so pipe installation may be inspected and approved.
F.
In backfilling, the earth shall be carefully rammed, so as to keep the pipe in proper position and avoid setting, and no stones shall be used in filling until there has been a depth of two feet of fine earth or gravel placed over the pipe.
A.
Where rock is found in the bottom of the trench, it shall be taken out six inches below the required grade of the pipe and the space filled with sand, gravel or other suitable material thoroughly rammed.
B.
No blasts shall be fired within five feet of the public sewer or any private sewer or drain connecting therewith, and the utmost care shall be taken to prevent injury thereto.
The house sewer from a point three feet outside of the house to the street sewer shall be of the first quality, salt-glazed, vitrified earthenware pipe, asbestos-cement pipe or cast-iron pipe, with deep and wide sockets, unless laid less than two feet deep, when it shall be of heavy cast iron. Its diameter shall be not less than four inches.
A.
The cover of the Y-branch on the sewer shall be carefully removed so as not to injure the socket. The first length of the pipe attached to the Y-branch shall be set so as to give a good fall into the sewer.
B.
The pipe shall be laid on an even grade of not less than 1/4 of an inch to the foot.
C.
In making any deflection from a straight line, the pipes must be selected so as to give close, smooth joints, and when this cannot be done with straight pipes, special bends must be furnished. All branch sewers shall be run as nearly as possible in straight lines from the Village sewers to the nearest point in the cellar and, where possible, shall be left so such branch can be cleaned from the cellar.
D.
The joints of the pipes shall be made with G.K. Compound, Jointite or equal.
(1)
For earthenware pipes the joint shall be slip-seal type.
(2)
For cement-asbestos pipes the joint shall be slip-seal type.
(3)
For cast-iron pipes the joint shall be either slip-seal joint, mechanical joint or pounded-lead joint.
E.
The ends of all private sewers not immediately connected with the plumbing fixtures shall be securely closed by watertight imperishable material.
F.
There shall be placed and maintained under closets and urinals, where the Board of Health shall deem it necessary, suitable safes of sheet lead of not less than four pounds or of copper not less than 16 ounces per square foot. Whenever safes are placed under fixtures, the safe wastes shall be run separately to the basement or cellar and be closed by a hinged brass flap valve or other approved device to prevent cellar air from rising through. The ends of refrigerator wastes shall also be closed in the same manner.
