A. 
Commencing January 1, 1976, and thereafter, no member of the Police Department shall be eligible for promotion unless he has completed 15 credits as hereinafter defined.
B. 
Commencing January 31, 1978, and thereafter, no member of the Police Department shall be eligible for promotion to any rank unless he has completed 60 credits as hereinafter defined.
C. 
Credits required for promotion, as hereinabove set forth in Subsections A and B, shall be those credits which are required by attending a program of police science at an accredited school of higher education.
D. 
Commencing January 31, 1979, and thereafter, no member of the Police Department shall be eligible for promotion to any rank unless he has been awarded an associate degree in police science in an accredited school of higher education, except the position of Director of Public Safety or higher officer, which shall require a bachelor's degree in police science or police administration. In addition, the Director of Public Safety and any officer at the rank of Sergeant or higher officer must become a resident of Riverside Township within 90 days after his appointment as Director of Public Safety, Sergeant or higher officer of Riverside Township.

E. 
The Township of Riverside will pay in the form of an incentive increment $20 for each credit obtained while attending a program of police science leading to an associate degree in criminal justice/law enforcement to a maximum of 62 credits as identified and within the limits of Directive Number 16 published and adopted by the Township Committee of the Township of Riverside.

The Township Committee of the Township of Riverside adopted the attached rules and regulations governing the Riverside Township Police Department are adopted by the Township pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:14-118 et seq.[1]
