GENERAL REFERENCES
Director of Public Health — See Ch. 2.575.
The Mayor shall appoint a Board of Health which shall consist of three members, one of whom shall be a physician. The Mayor shall designate the Chair of the Board of Health, and the members may elect a Vice Chair and Clerk.
(See MGL c. 111, § 26.) The members of the Board of Health shall serve indefinite terms.
A. 
The Board of Health shall be vested with and exercise all of the powers and duties conferred upon a board of health as provided in the General Laws.
B. 
The Board of Health shall administer ordinances and regulations pertaining to and affecting the public health of the Town, including but not limited to establishments serving and preparing food, septic systems, wells, the transportation and disposal of garbage, and other environmental issues generally impacting the public health.
C. 
The Board of Health shall have the authority to adopt regulations affecting the public health in the manner provided in MGL c. 111, § 31. Prior to adopting any regulations, the Board of Health shall forward proposed regulations to the Mayor for review and comment.
D. 
The Board of Health may grant and revoke permits, grant variances, and seek enforcement of any of its health laws or regulations, in the manner provided in such laws or regulations.[1]
