The numbering for address and official tax record purposes of
all houses, property and lots located on all streets in the City running
from south to north, shall be arranged so that, for example, the property
located on the east side of Bergenline Avenue at its intersection
with the north side of Second Street, shall be known as House No.
200, and each building entrance shall have a separate number so that
in the event there is more than one building on one lot, each of the
buildings shall have a separate number and should a building be erected
on more than one lot and have only one entrance, then each 25 feet
of the lot shall have a separate number, and other streets running
in the same direction shall conform to this method of numbering and
as specifically set forth in subsection 18-3.2.
The southeasterly corner of each block shall bear the hundred
number designation of the street forming the southerly boundary of
the block and progress northerly by even sequence one hundred numbers
to the block on the east side of the street and by odd sequence on
the west side of the street. The respective blocks located on streets
which do not intersect a boundary street shall bear the hundred number
of the corresponding block nearest the same location which does intersect
the boundary street.
Numbers of buildings and parcels of land and property located
on streets running from east to west shall not be affected by this
section.
The numbering of houses and property shall conform strictly
to a plan entitled "City of Union City, Hudson County, Renumbering
of Houses and Property, February, 1940, Peter LaMort, City Engineer,"
approved by Henry Specker, Director of Public Works and by the Board
of Commissioners of the City of Union City, and which plan is on file
in the office of the director of revenue and finance in the office
of the director of public works and in the office of the City Clerk
and which plan designates the old numbers of the old houses and property,
and the new numbers of houses and property, required by this section.
On vacant property where no address is shown on the plan, the
new address of the vacant property must conform with this section
and the general plan of renumbering the address being reserved but
specifically omitted from the plan.
In case of dispute or doubt as to the proper number to be assigned
to a lot, part of lot or building, the director of public works shall
determine the number of such lot, part of lot or building.
All buildings fronting on a street shall have conspicuously
displayed the number as provided by this section and the plan herein
referred to.
