In accordance with Article 2, Section 2-10 and Article 3, Section 3-3 and Article 23, paragraph 7 of the City Charter enacted by Chapter 72 of the Acts of 2013, the Mayor shall appoint a Building Commissioner, who shall meet the qualifications and perform the duties as enumerated in MGL c. 143, § 3. The Commissioner may be removed at the sole discretion of the Mayor.

The Building Commissioner will act as the senior building inspector and will supervise and manage the Building Department. The Building Commissioner shall prepare an annual report of the activities of the Department and submit it to the Mayor and City Council each January.

The inspectors of building, plumbing, wires, gas, and petroleum shall be under the supervision of the Building Commissioner, who will be responsible for their appointment and removal, subject to the approval of the Mayor.
