Subject to the confirmation or rejection of the City Council, the Mayor shall appoint a Director of Maintenance in accordance with Article 2, Section 2-10, Article 3, Section 3-3 and Section 23, paragraph (7) of the City Charter enacted by Chapter 72 of the Acts of 2013.

The Director of Maintenance shall serve until his successor shall have been duly appointed and qualified.

The Director of Maintenance shall receive such salary as the City Council shall determine by ordinance.

The Director of Maintenance shall superintend and care for the maintenance and repair of all buildings and grounds owned and used by the City or any department thereof, including public schools. The Director of Maintenance shall meet with the commissioners and boards that oversee the parks and develop maintenance programs and guidelines in accordance with the recommendations of the commissioners and boards. He, or his designated agent, shall have charge of the use and rental of all rooms or halls in the public schools and other property under his supervision, provided that such use or rental shall not interfere with school purposes. He shall contract for or authorize the purchase of such materials and supplies as may be required for the repair and maintenance of the property under his supervision, subject to the provisions of this Code and other ordinances of the City.

The Director of Maintenance shall annually, in January, submit to the Mayor and City Council a report of all work performed during the year, including expenditures and receipts, and such recommendations as he may deem proper.

The Director of Maintenance may be removed at the sole discretion of the Mayor in accordance with Article 2, Section 2-10 and Article 3, Section 3-3 of the City Charter enacted by Chapter 72 of the Acts of 2013.
