The personnel of the Division of Police and Fire Alarm Signal System shall consist of a Superintendent of Police and Fire Alarm Signal System, hereinafter called the Superintendent, three fire alarm and signal maintenance men, and one clerk who shall be under the jurisdiction of the Fire Chief of the Fire Department.

The division shall be responsible for the following:
(1) 
The construction, maintenance and repair of the police and fire alarm system, the patrolling of all lines of electrical wire connected with or used therein, and any and all other work and duties necessary to keep and maintain such system and all wires, fixtures, apparatus and machinery thereof in good order and proper repair to ensure the safety and efficiency thereof.
(2) 
The performance and discharging of such other or additional duties which the City Council, by ordinance, the Fire Chief or Superintendent may hereinafter prescribe.

The Superintendent shall be appointed by the Mayor and shall be subject to removal by the Mayor, governed by the provisions of General Laws, Chapter 31, and the civil service rules and regulations made pursuant thereto.

The Superintendent shall have general supervision of the personnel of the Division. He shall keep complete records of the Division and shall, whenever required, report the activities of the division to the Fire Chief and submit a list of such funds as may be required for the operation of his Division for the year.

The personnel of the Division, other than the Superintendent, shall be appointed by the Fire Chief and shall be subject to removal by the provisions of MGL c. 31, and the civil service rules and regulations made pursuant thereto.
