[HISTORY: Adopted by the Town Meeting of the Town of Bethlehem
as indicated in article histories. Amendments noted where applicable.]
[Adopted 10-12-1954; amended in its entirety 12-20-1999]
A Planning Commission is hereby established in accordance with Chapter 126 of the Connecticut General Statutes, such Commission to have all the powers and duties set forth in said statutes.
A.
The Planning Commission shall consist of five members who shall be
electors of the Town of Bethlehem holding no salaried Town office.
They shall serve for terms of five years, on a rotating basis, elected
at each biennial municipal election. The First Selectman shall be
an ex officio member of the Commission with the same rights as regular
members, except that the First Selectman will have no voting privileges.
B.
Three alternate members of the Planning Commission, who shall be
electors of the Town of Bethlehem holding no salaried Town office,
shall be elected and serve for terms of three years, on a rotating
basis, elected at each biennial municipal election. If a regular member
of the Planning Commission is absent or is disqualified, the Chair
of the Commission shall designate an alternate to so act, choosing
alternates in rotation so that they shall act as nearly equal a number
of times as possible. If any alternate is not available in accordance
with such rotation, such fact shall be recorded in the minutes of
the meeting.
Vacancies shall be filled by the Commission for the unexpired
portion of the term.
The Commission shall elect annually a Chairman and a Secretary
from its members, shall from time to time adopt rules for the transaction
of its business and shall keep a public record of its activities on
file with the Town Clerk.
