The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company, its successors
and assigns are hereby granted the right, privilege and authority
to construct, operate and maintain their telephone lines, including
the necessary poles, wires and fixtures, upon, over, along and under
the alleys and highways of the Town.
In consideration of the rights and privileges herein granted,
the telephone company, aforesaid, shall furnish free of cost to said
Town space for its fire alarm and police telegraph wires upon all
poles erected under the provisions of this article.
Nothing contained in this article shall be construed to grant
to the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company an exclusive franchise,
and the Mayor and Council hereby reserves the right to grant a like
consent to any other company, person or persons for like purposes.
The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company shall hold the
Mayor and Council free and harmless from all damages and claims for
damages arising by reason of the erection or negligent maintenance
of said company's telephone lines.
