The Sheriff is hereby authorized to appoint such school crossing guards as are approved and budgeted by the County Commissioners.

The school crossing guards shall be subject to all rules and regulations as now or hereafter adopted by the Sheriff. However, such school crossing guards shall not be deemed a part of the County Sheriff's office nor entitled to the benefits of retirement pension laws for members of the Sheriff's office. All school crossing guards shall be under the control of the Sheriff.

The school crossing guards shall have the power to direct traffic at all school crossings in the County and at such other places along the public highways in the County as the Sheriff shall direct. These powers shall be limited to assisting with pedestrian and vehicular traffic control directly related to the arrival or dismissal of students of a school.
Any person not obeying a lawful order or command of a school crossing guard shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined a sum not in excess of $25.
