The CPW Director shall be charged with the responsibility of
issuing trench permits in accordance with MGL c. 82A and 520 CMR 14.00
and all amendments thereto for all work involving excavations on public
property. Such excavation permit shall be in addition to any other
permits required by the General Ordinances.

The Inspector of Buildings/Superintendant shall be charged with
the responsibility of issuing trench permits in accordance with MGL

excavations on private property. Such excavation permit shall be in
addition to any other permits required by the General Ordinances.

Whenever a permit holder is making multiple trenches over the
course of a single project, the CPW Director and Inspector of Buildings/Superintendant
may issue a blanket permit allowing the permit holder to add to the
list of trench locations as the permit holder becomes aware that a
trench is required. The permit holder shall advise the CPW Director
of the addition of each new trench on public property and the Inspector
of Buildings/Superintendant of the addition of each new trench on
private property. However, any single trench that runs on both public
and private property shall be considered a single trench and require
a single permit issued by the CPW Director. The CPW Director shall
notify the Inspector of Buildings/Superintendant of any single trench
permit that runs on both public and private property.

The fee for each trench permit issued by any of the City's designated
issuing authorities shall be $200 except for owner-occupied residential
properties for which the fee shall be $50. The fee for any multiple
trench permits shall be $500, except for owner occupied residential
properties for which the fee shall be $100.
