GENERAL REFERENCES

This chapter shall be known as the "Garbage, Refuse and Recycling
Law" of the Village of Corinth.
As used herein, the following words shall mean and are hereby
defined as follows:
The person or persons designated by the Board of Trustees
of the Village of Corinth to provide refuse and garbage collection
and disposal and the collection and disposal of recyclables.
Any animal or vegetable matter capable of fermentation or
decay.
An individual, a partnership, an association or corporation.
Land, buildings or other structures or parts thereof upon
or in which the refuse or garbage is stored.
Glass, plastics, tin cans, newspapers, and cardboard.
All solid wastes other than garbage and body wastes, such
as rags, paper, shoes, small metal, rubber and wooden scrap and other
material of the same general nature.
Except as qualified in § 281-4, garbage and refuse as defined herein and recyclables as defined herein shall be acceptable for collection.
Not acceptable for collection are the following:
A.
Dangerous materials or substances, such as poisons, acids, caustics,
infected materials and explosives.
B.
Unusual quantities of materials resulting from the excavation for
or the construction or repair of buildings or structures, such as
earth, plaster, mortar or roofing material.
C.
Leaves, yard clippings and tree and shrub trunks, limbs and branches.
D.
Solid wastes resulting from industrial processes.
E.
Ashes containing hot embers.
F.
Materials which have not been prepared for collection in accordance
with these regulations.
G.
Ceramic, pottery, Pyrex, window glass, mirrors, glassware, light
bulbs, caps, pumps, and lids are not acceptable for recyclable collection
but may be included in garbage and refuse collection.
Refuse and garbage shall be stored for collection as follows:

All containers for refuse and garbage shall be kept in a proper state
of repair, shall be kept free from nails and sharp edges and in a
sanitary condition that they may be readily removed.
C.
Recyclables for collection shall be rinsed, drained and stored in
a durable, washable container of appropriate size that is easily recognizable
as recyclables. The Village may, in its sole discretion, provide containers
for recyclables collection.
A.
Garbage, refuse, and recyclables shall be placed for collection not
later than 5:00 a.m. on the days of collection as so designated by
the Village. No garbage, refuse, or recyclables shall be placed for
collection on or near the street curb earlier than the evening before
the regularly scheduled day for collection. The containers shall not
be placed within five feet of a mailbox, tree, pole, fence, guardrail
or other obstruction. Refuse, garbage and recyclables that are not
stored for collection in containers as required herein shall not be
collected.

All containers shall be removed from the street curb to a place invisible
from the street not later than 8:00 p.m. on the days of collection
as so designated by the Village. All refuse, garbage and recyclables
not collected for failure to be placed for collection at the time
required or refused collection by the collector for failure to meet
the requirements of these regulations shall be promptly removed from
the street curb to a place invisible from the street.
Any person committing an offense against any of the provisions
of this chapter shall be guilty of a violation and, upon conviction
thereof, shall be punishable for each offense by a fine of not more
than $250 or by imprisonment for not more than 15 days, or both.
