A child is prohibited from being a habitual truant.
For the purpose of this chapter, the following terms shall have
the meanings indicated:
An acceptable excuse as defined in §§ 118.15
and 118.16(4), Wisconsin Statutes.
Has the meaning given in Wis. Stats. § 118.153(1)(b).
A pupil who is absent from school without an acceptable excuse
under §§ 118.16(4) and 118.15 for part or all of five
or more days on which school is held during a school semester.

A pupil who is absent from school without an acceptable excuse
under Wis. Stats. §§ 118.15 and 118.16(4) for part
or all of any day on which school is held during a semester.
Upon finding that a pupil is a habitual truant, the court shall
enter an order making one or more of the following dispositions:
A.
Suspend a pupil's operating privilege for not less than 30 days
nor more than one year. The judge shall immediately take possession
of the suspended license and forward it to the Department of Transportation
of the State of Wisconsin, together with a notice stating the reason
for and duration of the suspension.
B.
Order the child to participate in counseling, community service or
a supervised work program as described in Wis. Stats. § 938.34(5g).
The costs of any such counseling, community service, or supervised
work program may be assessed against the pupil, the parents or guardian
of the pupil, or both. Any county department of human services or
social services, community agency, public agency, or nonprofit charitable
organization administering a supervised work program or other community
service work to which a pupil is assigned pursuant to an order under
this subsection, acting in good faith, has immunity from any civil
liability in excess of $25,000 for any act or omission by or impacting
that person.
C.
Order the child to remain at home except during the hours in which
the child is attending religious worship or a school program, including
travel time required to get to and from the school program or place
of worship. The order may permit a child to leave his or her home
if the child is accompanied by a parent or guardian.
D.
Order the child to attend an educational program under Wis. Stats.
§ 938.34(7d).
E.
Order the pupil to attend school.
F.
A forfeiture of not more than $500 plus costs, subject to Wis. Stats.
§ 938.37. All or part of the forfeiture may be assessed
against the pupil, the parents or guardians of the pupil, or both.
G.
Any other reasonable conditions consistent with this chapter, including
curfew, restrictions as to going to or remaining on specified premises,
and restrictions on associating with other children or adults.
H.
Order the pupil to be placed under formal or informal supervision.
I.
Order the pupil's parent(s), guardian(s), or legal custodian(s)
to participate in counseling at the parent's, guardian's,
or legal custodian's expense or to attend school with the pupil,
or both.
Upon finding that a pupil who is at least 16 years of age, but
less than 18 years of age, is a dropout, the court may suspend the
dropout's operating privilege until the dropout reaches the age
of 18. The municipal court judge shall immediately take possession
of any suspended license and forward it to the Wisconsin Department
of Transportation, together with a notice stating the reason therefor
and the duration of the suspension.
References to specific statutory sections wherever used in this
chapter shall mean the Wisconsin Statutes, as from time to time amended,
modified, repealed or otherwise altered by the State Legislature.
