Police pension plan — See Ch. 48, Art. II.
The Police Department of the Borough of Zelienople is hereby reestablished. The Chief of Police shall be the chief executive of the Police Department. He shall, under the direction of the Mayor, be in charge of the police force and have supervision over its members in the exercise of their powers, duties and authority.

A. 
The Council for the Borough of Zelienople hereby abolishes the classification of Police Lieutenant.
B. 
The Council for the Borough of Zelienople hereby creates and establishes the classification of Corporal within the Zelienople Police Department.
C. 
The classification of Sergeant will be subordinate to that of the Chief of Police. The classification of Corporal will be subordinate to that of the Chief of Police and Sergeant.
D. 
The remaining officers would bear the classification of patrolman. The classification of patrolman will be subordinate to the Chief of Police, Sergeant and Corporal.
E. 
Notwithstanding the provisions of this part, the office of Chief of Police shall remain in full force and effect. The Chief of Police shall continue to be the chief executive officer of the Police Department.
F. 
In the absence of the Chief of Police, the Sergeant will serve as the chief executive officer of the Police Department under the direction of the Mayor and Borough Council as provided in the Borough Code.
G. 
The number of persons to serve in each subordinate classification, on a full-time and/or part-time basis, and the compensation of each, shall be determined by the Borough Council from time to time.
Nothing herein contained shall affect the authority of the Mayor to appoint special policemen during emergencies.

Outside employment of full-time police officers of the Borough of Zelienople, except during off days, off-duty holidays or vacations, and except as hereinafter modified, is hereby prohibited; provided, however, at the request from time to time of Southwest Butler County School District, off-duty, full-time police officers may, at the sole cost of said District, perform police work at Seneca Valley Junior and Senior High School and Connoquenessing Valley Elementary School.

"Outside employment," as used in this chapter, except as modified in § 62-4 hereof, shall include all paid work of any nature whatsoever, but shall not include special police duty assignments which are made from time to time by the Chief of Police of the Borough of Zelienople or the Mayor thereof, provided that payment therefor is made by the Borough of Zelienople to the police officer for such special police duty assignments and no remuneration is paid to the police officer by any other source.

In the event that any full-time police officer of the Borough of Zelienople is injured in the performance of outside employment, as herein defined, he shall not be entitled to any sick leave, and his return to employment on the police force shall be contingent upon his ability to perform the duties of a police officer to the reasonable satisfaction of the Chief of Police of the Borough of Zelienople and/or the Mayor and a licensed physician to be designated by the Borough of Zelienople.

Violations of this chapter shall be grounds for dismissal from the police force of the Borough of Zelienople.
