All dogs in violation of this Part 1 may be taken by the Animal Control Officer and impounded in the animal shelter and there confined in a humane manner or, in lieu of impoundment, the Animal Control Officer may cite the owner for violations of this Part 1.
Unlicensed impounded dogs shall be kept for not less than five days and licensed dogs shall be kept for not less than seven days, unless reclaimed by their owners.

Upon proof of ownership and proof of a valid rabies vaccination, a person may reclaim an unlicensed impounded dog within five days from date of impoundment or a licensed dog within seven days and shall pay fees set by resolution of the Fiscal Court.

Any unlicensed dog not reclaimed by its owner within five days or any licensed dog not reclaimed by its owner within seven days shall become the property of the County Humane Society and shall be eligible for adoption or humane euthanasia; provided, however, that the owner may reclaim his dog after the passage of the waiting period, if available, by paying the pickup fees and boarding fees. In such event, the owner shall not be responsible for any adoption fee.
The Animal Control Officer shall take diligent efforts to locate the owner of all dogs impounded under this Part 1 and shall immediately notify owners of licensed dogs by mailing a notification to them at the address listed on the license.
