A.
The
Mayor, with the advice and consent of the Board of Aldermen, at the
first (1st) meeting after each annual City election shall appoint
a suitable person as City Attorney who shall hold office until his/her
successor is appointed and qualified.
B.
Qualifications. No person shall be appointed to the office
of City Attorney unless he/she be a licensed and practicing attorney
at law in this State.
C.
Duties. The City Attorney shall attend all meetings of the
Board of Aldermen of the City of Versailles unless excused by the
mayor and shall perform all legal work of the City of Versailles to
include giving legal advice to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen concerning
legal questions affecting the City. Further the City Attorney shall
prosecute or defend all actions involving official city acts of the
City its officers, employees and agents. The City Attorney shall also
perform the duties of Prosecuting Attorney and shall prosecute the
violations of City ordinances in the Municipal Court of the City of
Versailles as well as all appeals therefrom.

A.
There
is hereby created the office of Assistant City Attorney for the City
of Versailles, Missouri.
B.
The
Assistant City Attorney shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice
and consent of the Board of Aldermen.
C.
The
term of office of Assistant City Attorney shall be for a term equal
to and to run concurrent with the City Attorney.
D.
There
shall be no salary or other benefits for the Assistant City Attorney
and the Assistant City Attorney may be terminated without cause.
E.
The
Assistant City Attorney shall have those powers granted by ordinances
and State law to the City Attorney and shall serve in place of the
City Attorney in his/her absence.
F.
The
Assistant City Attorney shall be under the supervision of the City
Attorney.
