A. The
Mayor, with the consent of the Board of Aldermen, shall appoint a
qualified member of the Missouri Bar, licensed to practice law in
the State of Missouri, to the office of City Attorney.
B. The
term of office shall be one (1) year. City Attorney will be appointed
annually at the Board meeting in June of each year.
C. The
City Attorney shall attend meetings of the Board of Aldermen, draft
customary ordinances and resolutions, advise City Officials and the
Board of Aldermen on legal matters affecting the City.
D. Except
to the extent that the Mayor and Board of Aldermen may elect to retain
special counsel from time to time, the City Attorney shall also draft
special complex ordinances, perform services for boards and commissions,
including any redevelopment projects and commissions, draft contract
and other legal documents, represent the City with respect to claims,
disputes and controversies involving the City, represent the City
before administrative bodies including State and Federal agencies,
represent the City in litigation in which the City is a party. For
such additional services the City Attorney shall receive additional
compensation as set by the Board from time to time.
