The following total gross weight requirements, with load, are hereby established for individual bridges under the supervision and control of the City, and are determined by City Engineers and by a service provided by the Missouri Department of Transportation.

The City Manager, with the approval of the City Council, shall post on each end of any bridge in this City that is under the City's control a sign stating the maximum total gross weight with load that may be permitted by any vehicle or combination of vehicles on such bridge. No sign will be required for those bridges or culverts whose load rating meets or exceeds thirty-six (36) tons, thereby qualifying as a non-rated bridge.

It shall be unlawful for any person to operate a vehicle of a weight in excess of the maximum limit as set forth in Section 385.010 unless he/she shall have express permission of the City Manager. Any person who shall violate the provisions of this Section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor. The Police Chief shall be responsible to the City Manager for the enforcement of the maximum load restrictions. Suspected violators may be taken to a local licensed weight scale to determine the gross weight.

No person shall drive any vehicle under the following bridges that exceeds the maximum height as set by the City Council and posted on the overpass.

Any person violating the provisions of this Chapter, or who shall willfully or negligently damage a bridge of the City, shall be liable for the amount of such damage caused to any bridge or culvert, and any vehicle causing such damage shall be subject to a lien for the full amount of such damage; provided, that such lien shall not be superior to any duly recorded or filed security interest or other previously attached lien. The amount of such damage may be recovered in an appropriate civil action by the City.
