The Fire Chief shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the City Council and shall serve at the pleasure of the City Council.

A. 
Generally. It shall be the duty of the Fire Chief to have charge of the Fire Department and to direct the fighting of fires within the City and make such fire inspections as provided in this Chapter.
B. 
Inspections. The Fire Chief shall make regular fire inspections of the entire fire zone of the City at least once every thirty (30) days and such other inspections in the residential district as may be directed or ordered by the Committee on Police and Fire Departments of the City Council.
C. 
Custodian Of Fire Equipment. The Fire Chief shall be the custodian of all the fire equipment of the Fire Department, and it shall be his/her duty to see that all equipment is properly cared for, so that such equipment will be in readiness at all times for the fighting or suppression of fires.
D. 
Additional Duties. The Fire Chief shall perform all duties that may be required of him/her from time to time by the Committee on Police and Fire Departments of the City Council or the Mayor. It shall be the duty of the Fire Chief to see that a responsible person is always in attendance at the Fire Department to answer all fire calls at all times.
