[1997 Code § 3-30]
There is hereby created the Department of Public Works of the City of Absecon City. It shall consist of a Superintendent of Public Works, who shall be the head of the Department, and all officers and employees assigned thereto. All such officers and employees shall perform their duties subject to the supervision and direction of the Superintendent.

The Department of Public Works shall have charge of and supervision over the care, maintenance and construction of all streets, roads, sidewalks, alleys and public ways and construction, operation and maintenance of all streets, gutters and drains and the appurtenances thereto, including all sewer collection systems and sewer pumping stations owned and operated by the City of Absecon City.

The Superintendent shall:
A. 
Provide, operate and maintain facilities for the collection and disposal of refuse and garbage at such times and in such manner as may be authorized by ordinance and supervise the performance of public contracts for such purposes.
B. 
Supervise the work done in the City garage or by contract for the storage, repair, servicing and maintenance of City-owned vehicles assigned to Streets and Roads Department.
C. 
Operate the City garage for the storage, repair and maintenance of all City-owned vehicles assigned to the Streets and Roads Department.

All physical properties of the City, including parks, playgrounds and recreation facilities and municipal buildings, not assigned to some other department or officers shall be and are hereby assigned to the Department of Public Works.
[1997 Code § 3-34]
The Department of Public Works shall:
A. 
Maintain, care for and control and preserve public parks and recreational places.
B. 
Control and care for all lands, playgrounds, parks and recreation areas in a safe and wholesome condition for use.
